Curaçao: The Location

Curaçao is situated in the southern part of the Caribbean, 70 km north of Venezuela,  right in the heart of the ABC islands.

Alongside Bonaire and Aruba,  Curaçao belongs to the Leeward Islands, where the risk of hurricanes is minimal since these islands are located outside the hurricane belt.  Aruba lies to the west, approximately 80 km away, and   50 km to the east of Curaçao is Bonaire.

The island of Curaçao  is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It boasts its own government while collaborating on certain matters, such as finances, with the representation of the Kingdom in the Netherlands.From east to west, Curaçao measures around 60 km in length. Defense is also organized at the Kingdom level.

From east to west, Curaçao measures around 60 km in length. Its north-to-south width varies between 4  and 14 km. In total, the island covers approximately 444 km². To put it in perspective,  Curaçao is twice the size of Amsterdam.

The distance between the Netherlands and Curaçao is roughly 7,900 km. With a direct flight, the journey takes between 9   to 10 hours from Schiphol Airport to Hato Airport in Curaçao.
